Beez & Hivez Quilt Pattern PDF

Consider Beez buzzing around their Hivez - what lovely images they conjure! Your vision may include healthy country air, it may be closer to home in your own beautiful flower filled garden.

To help you fashion your busy bee vista I’ve designed two blocks. Sizes in both blocks range from the tiny 4” through 6”, 8” to 10”. Both the hivez and beez tailz are made from strips easily pieced for a great graphic look OR you could use a print fabric to save time. In the usual Stargazey style we have simple cutting and straight stitching, but with more pieces here than in many Stargazey patterns these blocks just aren’t the quickest blocks around.

Need help on using these Beez & Hivez? My sample is a simple row by row version using both blocks in all sizes and it comes together easily, but why stop there? A Medallion quilt would also be perfect - imagine lots of beez circling a large central hive. In Medallion setting again consider having a Queen Bee - complete with embroidered crown - surrounded by her loyal followers. A friendship quilt or a quilting bee? Get busy honey!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This PDF quilting pattern includes full fabric requirements, cutting instructions and step-by-step assembly guidance. You may customise it to your desired quilt size.

Based on my sample - 45 3/4” x 61 1/2” (116cm x 156cm)
Block backgrounds and outer border-
1 1/2 yds (1.5m) of assorted blue fabrics
1 1/2 yds (1.5m) of assorted pink fabrics
2 1/2 yds (2.5m) of assorted green fabrics
Beez wingz - 1/2 yd (40cm) of black print fabric
Beez bodiez- 2/3 yd (60cm) of black fabric
Beez stripez - 1/3 yd (30cm) of assorted yellow fabrics
Hivez - 1 1/2 yds (1.5m) of assorted orange/yellow fabrics
Hivez door - fat eighth of black fabric
Inner border - 1/3 yd (30cm) of black fabric
also needed; backing, batting & thread

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
