Leavez Quilt Pattern PDF

Falling with autumn splendour, creating shade from the summer sun, growing in vines up and over fences - leavez are a simple image but a very useful one.

In wonderfully easy Stargazey Style here are Leavez that are both simple and quick to cut and piece. They can be made in three block sizes - 4”, 6” and 8” - with a further choice of whether you would like them to be stitched ‘straight’ or ‘on point’. Setting choices are as varied as there are gardens. I have made my sample into sets of upright single-stem plants. You may prefer your Leavez to wander vine-like as a border, have them tumbling randomly earthbound in all sizes and variations, or set up to record your family tree. My scrappy green Leavez are set against a fresh spring sky.

You could think of the different seasons, think of different lights, think of different plants and different places. Most of all, think about stitching a copious pile of them!

Sample size - 45 1/2” x 64 1/2” (116cm x 164cm)
Block backgrounds - 3 yds (2.5m) of assorted aqua prints            
Leavez - 1 1/4 yds (1.2m) of assorted green prints
Leavez stalkz - 1 yd (75cm) of a black and white print
Central stalkz - 6” (15cm) of a black and white print
Inner borders - 1/2 yd (50cm) of an aqua print
Connector border - 60” (1.6m) of green print, (use excess in the backing)
Outer border - 1/4 yd (20cm) each of two aqua fabrics
Binding -15” (40cm)
also needed; batting, backing and thread

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
