Hobby Horsez Quilt Pattern PDF

Continuing on with my series of animal blocks I’ve approached horses with a little trepidation - I had a great idea for a galloping equine but the blocks would end up being pretty big. Deciding instead to start on the upper body only, like I did for Catz and Dogz, seemed to be the best option. Horsez heads then turned into Hobby Horsez pretty quickly – much more fun and better connotations – especially as they are planned for quilts!

Make these blocks in three sizes, 10”, 8” and 6” - as square blocks - or with the extended pole as I have done. They have a bridle to make them distinctively horsey but without that and the mane they could be true blue aussie kangarooz!

Hobby Horsez will make a nice cuddle quilt for a youngster. Made in pastel colours they are great for baby quilts. Change the setting and combine with other blocks or some simple appliqué and you’re sure to make a teenage horse-obsessed gal love you!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This PDF quilting pattern includes full fabric requirements, cutting instructions and step-by-step assembly guidance. You may customise it to your desired quilt size.

Sample size - 37” x 51 1⁄2” (94 cm x 131 cm)
Horsez – 10” square each of six orange fabrics
Bridlez & polez – 1⁄2 yd (50 cm) total of assorted black and white fabrics
Background – 2 1⁄2 yds (2.3 m) total of assorted purple fabrics
Inner border – 1⁄4 yd (25 cm) of a black and white fabric
Outer border – 2⁄3 yd (60 cm) of a purple print
Binding – 1⁄3 yd (30 cm) of a black and white fabric
Mane – 1 yard of fringing
also needed; batting, backing and thread

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
