Orangez & Lemonz Quilt Pattern PDF

Orangez & Lemonz are derived from the traditional Kaleidoscope block but made much easier, Stargazey Style, with a stack, slice, switch and sew process. Set your worries aside, you need not be a master of precision, the centre points meeting exactly is not a big issue.

Block sizes are 6”, 8” & 10”. The two blocks, Lemon Halvez and Orange Quarterz, both follow the same process initially in forming the fruit – their backgrounds though are treated a little differently. As a bonus I also give you instructions for an altered, straigher version of the Orange Quarterz, seen set as border units in my sample quilt.

Not inclined towards citrus? Think other fruit, cake, pizza slices, umbrellas, beach balls or simply whacky colour combos to bring this Vitamin C filled block back to its Kaleidoscope origins. Hope your appetite is whetted!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This PDF quilting pattern includes full fabric requirements, cutting instructions and step-by-step assembly guidance. You may customise it to your desired quilt size.

Sample size - 50 1/2“ x 58 1/2“(129cm x 149cm)
Block backgrounds – 1/2 yd (50cm) each of five green, yellow and orange prints
Flesh – a fat eighth each of six orange prints (for blocks & borders)
– a fat eighth each of six yellow prints
– a 10” square each of six green prints
Peel – 3/4 yd (75cm) of black/orange stripe (for blocks & borders)
– 1/2 yd (50cm) of a black/yellow stripe
– 1/4 yd (25cm) of a black/green stripe
Inner border – 1/4 yd (25cm) of yellow stripe
Outer border backgrounds – 1/2 yd (50cm) each of two prints for the sides
– 1/2 yd (50cm) each of two prints for the top and bottom
Binding - 1/4 yd (25cm) each of two prints
also needed; batting, backing and thread

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
