Pencilz Quilt Pattern PDF

When I was young one of my most precious possessions was my Derwent 64’s. A palette of pencils in dazzling array of colour, they were so beautiful as a collection that it seemed a shame to sharpen them. The pencilz collection that I offer you is just as covetable.

I provide you with the facility to make individual pencilz, then prompt you to work them into a quilt in various ways. I show you how they can be slotted vertically into a square block and how they join beautifully with no gaps to make filled blocks or a long border – as I’ve done here. Laying one pencil over another sets us off in yet another direction. We also have a ‘fan’ corner setting! There are three unit sizes to work with; 6”, 8” and 10” pencilz. Their construction, in the usual Stargazey style of relaxed cutting and stitching is not daunting either.

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This PDF quilting pattern includes full fabric requirements, cutting instructions and step-by-step assembly guidance. You may customise it to your desired quilt size.

Sample size - 52 1/2” x 68 1/2“ (133cm x 174cm)
Lead – 2” (5 cm) each of fourteen solids matching the body fabrics
Wood – 2/3 yd (70 cm) of a neutral fabric
Body – 6” (15 cm) each of fourteen fabrics
Block backgrounds – 4 yds (4 m) of assorted black prints
Border backgrounds – 3 yds (3 m) of a black print
Binding - 1/2yd (40cm) - of a black print
also needed; batting, backing and thread

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
