Quilt as you go Crazy Quilt Pattern PDF

Gather all your scraps together and come with me. We’ll make a utility quilt great for a picnic rug or a play quilt. My quilt is made up of nine irregular units all with a central focus block.

I kept it simple with an appliqued star in each section. You may choose instead to use a set of pieced feature blocks to tell a story using other pieced or applique blocks. You may feature traditional blocks or a personal mix for a memory quilt. You may even choose not to start with a feature block. You may recognise our blocks in one of our samples: Cuppaz, Heartz, Treez, Housez and Tartanz.

Make it any size you want, with any number of sections, just make sure you enjoy going crazy!

FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

This PDF quilting pattern includes full fabric requirements, cutting instructions and step-by-step assembly guidance. You may customise it to your desired quilt size.

Sample size - 60” x 60“ (150cm x 150cm)        
Backings – 1/2yd (50 cm) each of nine fabrics.        
Some may need to be larger or may be pieced.
Cotton batting – 60” x 60” (150 cm x 150 cm).
Star Fabrics – 16” (40 cm) of a shining star fabric.
Crazy Piecing – Lots of scraps! From tiny scraps to large pieces and yardage, use it all. If you need to buy fresh yardage be prepared to buy more as needed or have leftovers.
Stranded cottons – 3 skeins to match or contrast the backing fabrics.
Binding - 1/2yd (50cm) of mixed fabrics (I simply used leftover piecing fabrics).

With freeform blocks like this, fabric requirements will vary from quilt to quilt. I give you minimums only. Be generous with your purchases as extra can always be used in the backing.
