These letters originally arrived in stamped envelopes with glossy, printed photos (remember those days!). To protect our writers' privacy, we've typed up their notes with minor details changed. We also scanned and brightened the original photos so you can see the quilts in their best light.

A big, happy house(z)

Faye from NSW, Australia shares a well-loved quilt that matches her daughter's decor perfectly and lets us in on her wild, multi-pattern birthday project.

Dear Jan,

Here is a blast from the past! But I am a finisher so I had to send you a photo.

We met at Meroo quilt camp. I had fun doing this - on the back is every last thread. My daughter painted a wall in her family room that is a deep red/brown and the quilt just goes so well. Each time I go to babysit there it is all mussed up on the couch so I know it's being used.

Since then I've done a wild one in your colours with Housez, Flowerz, Bagz and Butterfliez. My granddaughter gets that this weekend for her birthday.

My local patchwork shop tells me you have Hatz now. Can't wait to see it.

Faye's creation is a beautiful and unique take on Jan's Housez quilt pattern.

The beauty of Stargazey patterns is that you can make every block differently, experiment with sizes, and create a quilt that is completely your own. This freedom allows you to create a one-of-a-kind piece in the size that works best for how you plan to use it.
